Success stories

The Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) is successful after two teachers started in 1994 to redefine public education. Some teachers involved with MIND Trust, have successfully converted catholic schools to charter schools in Indianapolis. A common element is accountability and transparency. Also, the teacher’s union and local government cooperated with the administration of the schools to allow change. Some teachers know that if the schools close for lack of funding, students will not be taught and they will be unemployed so they are willing to compromise. Higher Education works it just needs some tweaking.

Transformation

If programs are working why change. Keep it simple and just change the programs or classes that do not work or add to 21st century needed skills. Each major course of study should be assessed on a regular basis.

Cyber schools are becoming popular and parents I talked to have said that home schooling kids have tested higher across the board in major subjects than public educated kids. Parents want change in how are kids are taught. I discussed the matter in class of basic education and “No child Left Behind”. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/02/09/educating-children-evolution-home-schooling/
